Gingerbread
2.5 Cups All Purpose Flour
1/2 Cup Golden Brown Sugar
4 Tbsp Unsalted Butter
1/2 cup Molasses
1 Egg
1/4 Cup Shortening
Royal Icing
1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
2 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
1 Tsp Ground Nutmeg
1 Tsp Ground Cloves
1/2 Tsp Salt
1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
Food Coloring
Preparations:
None.
Directions:
1- Combine the butter with shortening and brown sugar in a large bowl.
2- Whisk in the molasses.
3- Add an egg and vanilla extract and continue whisking until well mixed.
4- In a separate bowl, combine flour with baking soda, salt, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg and ground cloves,
5- Gradually add the flour to the sugar mixture. stirring thoroughly.
6- Wrap the batter with plastic wrap and keep in refrigerator for 2 hours.
7- Remove the batter from refrigerator and roll out on a floured parchment paper to a 1/4 inch sheet.
8- Cut the batter with cookie cutter of your choice.
9- Keep the cut out in refrigerator for 20 minutes or in freezer for 10 minutes.
10- Preheat oven to 375º F (190º F), bake the gingerbreads for 8 to 12 minutes.
11- Remove the gingerbread from the oven and allow to cool down.
12- Use the royal icing and food color to design the gingerbreads.
